
Increasing the capacity of an existing process installation is not simply a matter of increasing the fan flow rate. Higher volumetric flow rates change velocities, pressure losses and the distribution of air through the individual components of the system.
FlowMotion carried out a concept study to determine how the capacity of an existing cleaning installation could be increased while maintaining acceptable flow conditions and pressure losses.
The analysis considered the interaction between the different components and identified where the main hydraulic or aerodynamic restrictions occurred. This made it possible to distinguish between components that still had sufficient capacity and those that would become limiting when the throughput was increased.
Several modification concepts could then be compared on the basis of their expected influence on volumetric flow, pressure drop and flow distribution.
The study provided a technically substantiated route for increasing installation capacity without unnecessarily replacing components that were not responsible for the limitation.
